Types of Fresh Christmas Trees for Your Home

The holiday season is here, and many families will be going out to local tree farms to pick out the perfect Christmas tree. This is a great way to share memories with family and support local businesses and green spaces. Many families might already know what tree to look for, but for those who have yet to make up their minds, we discuss three types of fresh Christmas trees you can buy. Christmas trees come in a variety of different species, all of which have their own unique traits and advantages.

Types of Fresh Christmas Trees

Below are the three types of fresh Christmas trees available at the Burkholder Holiday Market this year.

Fraser Fir

The Fraser fir is native to the Appalachian Mountains in the Southeastern U.S. and was named after Scottish botanist John Fraser. The Fraser fir is one of the most popular species for Christmas trees, and for good reasons. These trees have strong limbs with dark-green color needles. The needles themselves are soft to the touch, so your fingers will stay safe hanging the ornaments. Fraser firs have a mild fragrance that is pleasant without being too overpowering for those with allergy concerns. The compact shape and size make this tree easy to transport, too.

Concolor Fir

Concolor firs, or White firs, are native to the American west and southwest, and the name comes from Latin meaning “all one color.” These types of fresh Christmas trees have gorgeous blue-green needles that are soft, rarely fall off, and even have a pleasant, citrus smell. The unique look and scent of Concolors make them a great choice for any home and ornaments. Concolor firs can take quite a bit of time to grow, but considering their beautiful look and scent, we say this tree is worth the wait.

Exotic Turkish Fir

One of the more exotic types of trees we have available, the Turkish fir, is a subspecies of the Nordmann fir, except in Turkey where the tree is treated as a distinct species. Turkish firs are native to a single region, Mount Ida in northwestern Turkey. These trees have a fuller appearance than the Nordmann firs. The needles are slightly shorter but retain their dark-green, soft, and waxy appearance and texture. Turkish firs are another good tree for those with allergies, as that waxy texture helps restrict fragrances. The unique appearance and exoticism have made the Turkish fir an increasingly popular Christmas tree. So if you want something a bit more unique, the Turkish fir is waiting for you.

Going out to look for the perfect tree should be a memorable experience, and we believe providing unique, beautiful trees should be a big part of that experience. So stop on by to our holiday shop, explore the types of fresh Christmas trees and find the perfect one for your home.
